Recipe Contest - Frequently Asked Questions

  • HOW DO I PARTICIPATE IN THE REAL WOMEN OF PHILADELPHIA RECIPE CONTEST?
    • How Does the Real Women of Philadelphia Recipe Contest work?

Beginning on July 25, 2011 contestants will be able to submit their PHILLY recipe online at www.realwomenofphiladelphia.com for a chance to win $500 and the opportunity for their recipe to be included in a cookbook. During the promotion period, there will be eight different weekly entry periods. Each week will have a different category/theme. Five winners will be awarded each week, for a total of 40 winners. Contest ends September 18, 2011.

    • When do the weekly submissions start/end?

Each week, you’ll be able to submit your themed recipe starting Monday at 12:01am ET, and entries will be accepted until Sunday at 11:59pm ET, between July 25, 2011 – September 18, 2011. The first entry period begins on Monday, July 25, 2011.

    • How do all the categories and themes work?

To keep the contest challenges interesting throughout the eight weeks, we’re going to mix and match recipe categories with themes. Categories are Appetizer, Side Dish, Entrée and Dessert. The theme for a given week’s contest will be revealed in a post on the Friday before the start of each weekly Entry Period and each Monday that starts a weekly Entry Period on realwomenofphiladelphia.com. Each week, one of the four categories will be paired with a different theme, and the combinations will be different each week. For more details, refer to the Official Rules.

    • How does the timing work for entries, judging and winner selection?

The overall process for each weekly recipe challenge breaks down into three phases occurring over three weeks:

Week #1 - Entry: Contest entry period is open from Monday at 12:01am ET through Sunday at 11:59pm ET.

Week #2 - Judging: Entries are judged, and winning recipes are chosen.

Week #3 – Announcement of winners: The five weekly winners will be announced on the Real Women of Philadelphia site. This process is followed for each of the eight weeks of the contest. Refer to the Official Rules for a detailed schedule.

    • What are the Eligibility guidelines for RWOP?

The Real Women of Philadelphia recipe contest is open to residents of the 50 United States and D.C. (except for residents of MD and VT), who are 18 years of age and older as of July 25, 2011, and who are registered Real Women of Philadelphia community members, except for Season One and Season Two hosts. For complete details, refer to the Official Rules.

    • If I am a U.S. resident, but temporarily living overseas, am I eligible to enter?

You are eligible if your permanent mailing address (entry address) is in the U.S. or D.C. (except for residents of MD or VT). If you become a winner, this is the address to which your prize check would be mailed.

    • If I am a food professional, am I eligible to enter?

Yes, you are eligible to enter if you meet the eligibility requirements specified in the rules. Refer to the Official Rules.

    • Are the finalists or the winners from the casting competition eligible to enter?

The Season One and Season Two hosts (i.e. winners of the casting competition) are not eligible to enter. The finalists from the casting competitions may enter the contest, provided they meet the eligibility requirements listed in the Official Rules.

    • What criteria are the judges looking for in the recipes?

Recipes will be judged in two rounds. Round 1: Entries meeting the requirements in the Official Rules will be judged according the following: Appeal (50%), Ease of preparation (25%) and Creativity (25%). The ten highest scoring entries from round one will be judged in a second round according to the following: Appeal (25%), Creativity (25%), Taste (50%). For complete details, refer to the Official Rules on realwomenofphiladelphia.com.

    • Who selects the winning recipe submissions each week?

A panel of expert judges from Kraft Foods will review the submissions.

    • Are the recipes submitted on a daily or weekly basis?

During each week of the contest, the entry period is open from Monday at 12:01am ET through Sunday at 11:59pm ET. Entrants may submit their recipes at any time during the entry period. Entries will not be judged until the entry period is closed.

    • Are the winning recipes selected from recipes as they are received daily, or from weekly submissions?

Winning recipes will not be selected until after the deadline for the weekly entry period to give all entrants the opportunity to submit their entry.

    • The rules state “Limit one prize per person”. Does this mean once a user has won, they are disqualified for the remainder of the eight-week contest?

An eligible entrant can only win one time during the entire eight-week contest. Since there is a lag between a weekly entry period and the communication of that week’s winners, people should feel free to enter in subsequent weeks until such time as they are identified as a winner. If they become an official winner, they would no longer be eligible to win in subsequent weeks.

    • When are the winners selected?

Winners will be selected in the week following the entry period. The entry period is from Monday at 12:01 am ET through Sunday at 11:59 pm ET. The judging and winner selection will happen in the subsequent week.

    • When will winners be announced to the Community?

Winners will be announced to the community each week throughout the eight-week contest on a staggered basis (two weeks following the entry week).

  • I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT MY RECIPE SUBMISSION
    • Can I submit more than one recipe? (Ex: Appetizer and Entree categories)? If so, am I allowed to win in more than one category?

You may enter as many recipes as you want per week of the contest, and you may enter as many weeks as you want, but each recipe must be unique. You may be named a winner only once during the entire eight-week contest.

    • If I submitted a recipe for the casting competition, can I submit the same recipe for the contest?

Yes, you may submit the same recipe, as long as it meets the entry requirements for the recipe contest. For complete details, refer to the Official Rules on realwomenofphiladelphia.com.

    • Do I have to submit a video, similar to the phase one casting competition?

No, videos are not required and will not be evaluated. Entry requirements include an original recipe, photo of the recipe including a package of the PHILADELPHIA product, and a short essay describing the recipe and the entrant’s inspiration.

    • How do I add a photo to my submission?

To add a photo to your submission, you must first connect a Flickr account to your Real Women of Philadelphia profile. • Do salt and pepper count as ingredients?

No, salt and pepper to taste do not count toward the ingredient limit. Additional ingredients that do not count toward the ingredient limit are water, cooking spray to coat a pan, and oil or shortening needed for deep frying (if used for anything other than deep frying, it will count as an ingredient). If you call for these items in your recipe, you should not include them in the ingredient list, but should include them in the preparation instructions. (For example, “Coat the pan with cooking spray.”)

    • The rules state that “recipe must be original (original is defined as the creation of one’s own mind and is not a copy or imitation.)” Can I submit a family recipe that has been passed down through the generations?

A family recipe would be eligible to be submitted as long as it is not a copy or imitation of another recipe.

  • I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY SUBMITTED MY RECIPE - NOW WHAT?
    • Can I change my recipe once I have submitted?

You will be able to edit your recipe during the entry process; however, once you have submitted your recipe, you cannot make further edits to the recipe.

    • If I submitted my recipe, and I made a mistake, can I edit it?

No. You will have to resubmit your recipe, which will appear as a separate entry.

    • If my recipe is selected, how and when will I be notified?

If you are one of the five weekly winners, you will be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability Release form and will be notified online and by phone or mail.

      2. Conversation and Debate are good, so please engage others instead of shutting them down because they do not agree with you.

      3. Trolling, Hate Speech, Adult Content and Excessive Foul Language will NOT be tolerated. You get one warning; repeated violations will result in immediate deactivation. No Exceptions! If you find offensive content on the site, please flag it, and the Site Administrator will look into the problem.
